Goal:
The goal for this project was to create a poster series that utilized stylistic typography in a way that reflected the music and influences of the three musical legends: Jimi Hendrix, Madonna, and Ravi Shankar.
Initial Sketches/Concepting
Type Play
Distortion was experimented with by means of using a photocopy machine, to warp and change the text in interesting ways. This play allowed me to find inspiration for the poster series and provided lots of material to experiment with in the designs.
Digital Exploration
After bringing in some of the elements from the type exploration, I experimented in Photoshop, trying different styles until a solid direction was found. The goal was to create typography that could stand on its own as a concept.
Concept Refinement
Having developed a direction for the series, exploration began on how the posters for Madonna and Ravi Shankar would be implemented. The color and graphic elements were dialed back to emphasize the distorted text and how it could represent something about each artist.
